Under the Bed - music and lyrics by Raymond Butler
The dawn of a new millennium is blinding
It seems history hasn't ended after all
Let mavens proclaim - hashtag - "it's all unwinding"
I've made a lair where I don't hear such fol-de-rol
Under the bed, that's where you'll find me until further notice
Til the noise drops and the world stops seeing red
Under the bed
With 200 smokes, some weed, 2 kinds of vodka and a tonne of beer
It's nice here!
Under the bed
You can say I'm copping out but man
you're gonna have to shout it through the door
Cos while half the human race cuts off its nose to spite its face
I'll be in a ball on the floor
Under the bed
Watching cartoons and non-stop clips of cute and funny critters
There is no Twitter!
Under the bed
You can say I'm in denial but I'll just smile while I try to make it clear
I insist there's nothing wrong, hey man, don't make me sing the song:
LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU
Under the bed
Sure, I'll come out. Maybe. Eventually. And hope I don't see
My local bobby's now Judge Dredd
Under the bed
Feeling nostalgic for a brighter future
So til Marty McFly or The Doctor arrives to fix where history led
I'll be Under the Bed

The Better Man

He won the world with guts and gumption
(And daddy's media holdings in Japan)
Despite his throne, his rapid assumption
Sometimes he feels that he was not the better man
They had their choice, they chose to trust him
They knew the rules and - one assumes - had their own plan
But they were weak and so he crushed them
Sometimes he fears that he was not the better man
But don't be taken in
It's not his conscience, it's the sin of pride
The bully needs to win and still remain convinced
That he was on the angels' side
You had your choice, you chose to trick me
The money was good, now, anyone would understand
And so the spoils go with the victory
But not the appellation of the better man
What do you ask of me?
I find it hard to see what I can add
It seems you've won and so just take your cash and go
I can't stop you feeling bad
I want to say you are forgiven, but I'm not sure now if I should or if I can
So I kneel and pray
To David Niven
For the generosity, the grace, the true humility
For just the balls to someday be the better man
For just the balls to someday be the better man
